Set Up IPTV on a Smart TV: Samsung, LG & Android TV

Most Smart TVs can play IPTV directly, with no extra stick or receiver. The route there differs by operating system though: Android TV is the most flexible, while Samsung and LG have their own app stores with a narrower selection. This guide covers the right path for each of the three, plus what to do when your television is simply too old.

Before you start: what to have ready

• Your login: Xtream Codes (server URL, username, password) or your M3U link.
• A stable internet connection: from 10 Mbps for HD, from 25 Mbps for smooth 4K.
• The TV connected to your network — ethernet is steadier than Wi-Fi.

Android TV and Google TV

This is the easiest case. Open the Play Store on the television itself and install TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro or IBO Player. Launch the app, choose login via Xtream Codes API, and enter the server URL, username and password. The app then loads the channel list, the program guide (EPG) and the film and series catalogue automatically. Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense sets generally run Android TV or Google TV.

Samsung Smart TV (Tizen)

Samsung televisions run Tizen and have their own app store. Search it for an IPTV player supporting Xtream Codes or M3U and install it. Signing in then works as it does anywhere: server URL, username, password. Some players instead use a web portal where you register your television's MAC address — you'll find that in the set's network settings.

LG Smart TV (webOS)

On LG with webOS the procedure is practically identical: install an IPTV player with Xtream Codes or M3U support from the LG Content Store, open it, enter your credentials. Here too, some players work through a portal plus MAC address rather than a direct in-app login.

When the TV is too old or the app isn't available

Older Smart TVs stop receiving new apps, and not every store carries every player. That's no reason to replace the television: an Amazon Fire TV Stick, an Apple TV or an Android TV box plugs into HDMI and brings the full app selection with it. After setup: three settings worth changing

1. Decoder mode: if the picture isn't clean, switch from hardware to software decoding in the app settings (or the reverse).
2. Refresh the EPG: reload the program guide once manually so titles and times appear correctly.

If something goes wrong

If the channel list won't load, first check that the server URL, username and password are entered exactly as you received them — a missing colon or port is enough to break it.
